NOTE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Thanks for ordering your copy of the KC Area Youth Jazz Fellows vinyl LP “2019” from our website secure shop!
The 2019 KC Area Youth Jazz tracking session was done with Mr. Will Crain engineering at BRC Audio Productions in Kansas City.
The album is in post-production with Mr. Bill Crain switching hats from Musical Director to Recording Engineer – doing his typically amazing job editing, mixing and mastering the music; and we anticipate getting the audio to the LP manufacturer in a few weeks. Mr. Crain says the music sounds great and anyone who knows him, knows he doesn’t use great very often.
The iPhone video clip from the KC Area Youth Jazz YouTube Channel is a low resolution audio sample of the end of the improvisation solo by Atzin Garcia on alto saxophone into the extended piano improvisation by Coleman Gliddon on Dr. Arthur White’s composition, “Bird Flu.”
I sincerely and objectively believe that these vinyl LP recordings will be collectors’ items in a few years. Especially when you consider the career trajectory and potential of these fine young musicians – the sky is the limit for them musically!
The really cool album design has been done by Brad Beucher, one of the 2019 parents who helped out with the recording session and also took lots of great photos.
We are only manufacturing 200 copies of this album.
This album is one of the products KC Area Youth Jazz sells to sustain itself as a program. Our business model is unique in that in addition to teaching the art and craft of jazz music along with providing a professional recording artist experience to the Fellows each season, we teach the realities of doing business as artists. We also teach that artists must learn to subsidize their art and sustain their careers as business people, beyond the common approach of seeking the generous grant funding that is sometimes available for certain projects. We do this by creating products for sale each season: Concerts, Sponsorships, Recordings, and Print Music. This approach gives the Fellows a realistic firsthand experience of what a career as an artist is like – before college.
Please note that all of the music on this album will eventually be available for sale as a digital download from our site.
However, we won’t sell the download album until we have sold lots of vinyl LPs. So, buy an album and help sustain the program.
Remember: The sale of KC Area Youth Jazz products allows us to offer participation in this program at no charge – yes, it’s FREE!
All the best, Cb
