2020 AUDITION INQUIRIES ARE NOW OPEN

Thanks for your interest in participating in the audition process for a KC Area Youth Jazz Fellowship.

SAMPLE AUDITION VIDEOS

To give you an idea of what the KC Area Youth Jazz Audition is like we are sharing sample audition videos with any Prospective Auditionees. Ours is a basic musicianship audition that emphasizes applied performance of practical factors of music and some necessary jazz fundamentals. If you can play your instrument well, you have a good chance of being accepted into Youth Jazz. If these videos are above your current level, that's okay - get a music teacher to help put you on a path toward building these competencies on your instrument(s). If you are ready to request the audition information use the form at the bottom of this page to submit your inquiry.

2020 KCAYJ FELLOWSHIPS

The 2020 KCAYJ Fellowships will be offered to individual artists selected by audition. The instrumentation for the KCAYJ Fellows Combo is selected by audition from among youth jazz artists who were in grades 9-12 at the end of the 2019-2020 school year and play one of the following instruments: (1) alto saxophone, (2) tenor saxophone, (3) trumpet, (4) trombone, (5) guitar, (6) piano, (7) bass, (8) drums, (9) vibes. Doubles: Saxophonists, let us know if you double on other woodwinds. Brass players let us know if you double too. Jazz Flutists and Jazz Clarinetists (majors) are encouraged to apply as well.

BECOMING A KCAYJ FELLOW

YOUTH JAZZ will announce the individual names and respective instruments of current fellows along with their home city or town.

Significant music educators like band directors and private instructors will also be acknowledged.

KCAYJ appreciates the fact that most of the leading jazz artists working in the field today significantly benefited from the collective efforts of the entire jazz community.

We believe it is important for balance and perspective to acknowledge the involvement of our music educator colleagues who teach and mentor KCAYJ FELLOWS.
