KC Area Youth Jazz was founded by Christopher Burnett, COO of the Artists Recording Collective LLC (ARC recording label), who serves as Artistic Director and administrator of the organization. Bill Crain, CEO of BRC Audio Productions serves as Associate Musical Director and recording engineer. A “spring and summer” only program that is tuition free, the purpose of KC Area Youth Jazz is to produce a professional recording each season and perform public concerts in June and July. We invite youth jazz artists in grades 9-12 to audition for a Youth Jazz Fellowship – see the link on our website. We had a very successful first season and look forward to the future! KC Area Youth Jazz Fellows Ensemble’s debut performance was a “Next Generation Spotlight” concert at the KC area jazz venue, 424 Lounge.
“Our business model is unique in that in addition to teaching the art and craft of jazz music along with providing a professional recording artist experience to the Fellows each season, we teach the realities of doing business as artists. We also teach that artists must learn to subsidize their art and sustain their careers as business people. This approach gives the Fellows a realistic firsthand experience of what a career as an artist is like – before college.”
~ Christopher L. Burnett, founder and artistic director

SPONSOR A CONCERT
A TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION OF $500.00 sponsors a one-hour concert performance by the KC Area Youth Jazz Fellows ensemble. This fee supports the program in the areas of strategic investments and arts integration. The process of booking community performances also teaches the KC Area Youth Jazz Fellows about doing business as artists by creating a concert product, marketing it to the public, and being duly compensated.
Concerts supported by donations and Arts Grants must be free of any additional charges to the public and are presented upon completion of the booking process with the Artistic Director of KC Area Youth Jazz and finalization of such details as the location, date and time of the KCAYJ ensemble performance. See Booking Process below for further details.
KC Area Youth Jazz covers the costs for transportation to local concerts that are presented at venues 50 miles or less from Kansas City.
The support responsibilities of the sponsor include the procurement of a performance site and managing a publicity campaign that reasonably promotes the concert to its constituency.
For performances outside of the local area the sponsor will normally also provide support for any transportation, meals and lodging costs.
Concerts are presented at suitable indoor or outdoor concert sites within the sponsor community where seating is available and protection from weather elements is inherent.
Other considerations include:
- A designated stage area size of at least 20 feet by 20 feet.
- Each concert must be presented on an admission-free basis as a public service.
- Concerts are community engagement events that are intended to attract diverse audiences and stimulate considerable interest and praise for sponsoring organizations.
Should you elect to sponsor a KC Area Youth Jazz performance, most of the pre-concert arrangements will be made by telephone.
A team may visit your venue in advance of the concert to meet with you and finalize details.
Once all of the arrangements have been made and agreed upon, the performance will be officially booked and the concert donation fee is due.
If any additional information is required regarding the concert, please contact Mr. Burnett by telephone at (913) 250-5141 or email: email@example.com.
Mr. Burnett will confirm the availability for your date and finalize booking your event if everything can be coordinated.
